Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to photograph my bump?

Usually I say around 33-36 weeks would be ideal as hopefully you will have a nice visable bump but not be too uncomfortable.

Can my partner/ other children be in some images too?

Yes absolutely!

When is the best time to book my newborn session?

Please get in touch as soon as possible after your 12 week scan to book in. I do get booked up in advance so getting in as soon as possible means you are likely to get your chosen date. It is worth getting in touch at anytime though, even if baby is already born as I occasionally have last minute spaces due to babies being early or late.

When is the best time to have the newborn session?

Newborn sessions are for babies up to 6 weeks old. Every baby is different of course but as a rule these time scales are ok. If I can I will try and get you in on days 5-14 after birth as baby is often most calm and sleepy on those days.

What happens if I book and baby arrives early or late?

I book you in the diary with a provisional date around a week after your Estimated Due Date, keep in touch and let me know as soon as baby is here and we can find a spot in the diary as soon as possible. It is normal to have to juggle the diary around a bit as only around 5% of babies are born on time! I try to be as flexible as I can be if a baby is very early or late.

Can siblings &/or parents be involved in the session?

Absolutely! I positively encourage parents to be photographed with the new baby at sessions, the bond with your baby provides the most wonderful images. With regards to siblings, I love to include them too wherever possible. Newborn sessions can be long and boring for little ones so please bring some toys or something to keep them entertained between their shots ( snacks are also a good idea!)

Do you provide the cake and can we chose the style?

The session fee includes one of my small 4 inch standard cakes in a “semi naked” design, or you may pay extra to upgrade the cake to a design of your choice, or of course you are welcome to provide your own cake too.

What do we need to bring?

Just the usual changing bag, a drink for little one and a towel. If you would like the bubble bath part of the shoot and little one needs specific bubbles then please bring those too. I usually use Matey childrens bath bubbles.

What happens at the session?

The birthday sessions are divided into 3 parts but total no more than about an hour altogether, I really find that little ones have had enough after about 10-15 minutes on each section. We begin with the least messy part – images of your little one crawling or toddling about, playing with my little wooden toys, capturing their little personalities.  Next up is the cake smash where we introduce the birthday cake and just let little one get to work. Finally, it is bathtime!

Many 1 year olds dont like the feel of the icing cream and cake so it may be good to practice at home by doing some messy play sessions where they can get used to having sticky messy hands.

My little one has food allergies can you accommodate these?

I can ask the cake supplier to accommodate any allergies on request so be sure to let me know when booking.

Do you do cake smashes for older children?

Yes! You can book a birthday session for any age but the most popular are 1st and 2nd Birthdays.

Can I see your product prices before I commit to book?

Yes absolutely! You can always view my current session prices and packages here PRICES

Can I just have the unedited files and edit them myself?

Sorry no, the post processing that I do on each image is part of the art of creating an image in my style and as I intended it to be. The RAW files are an unfinished product, it is a bit like asking a baker to put the ingredients in a bowl so you can take it home and bake the cake yourself!

What happens if we cannot make our booked session?

Please get in touch as soon as possible. If baby is poorly or there is a genuine reason you cannot make your booked session I will do my best to find a new date for you. No fees will be refunded once paid unless there are exceptional circumstances. Please refer to your Terms & Conditions from more details.

What happens if the photographer is ill?

I am self employed and Pennycress Photography is just me, therefore there may be the odd occasion where I am ill, or my child is ill and I cannot work. I will always do my utmost to reschedule your session as soon as possible. I will not do a newborn session if I have an illness that could be passed onto your baby, in the case of minor colds etc I will contact you and give you the option to postpone or go ahead.

How long after our session will we get our images?

It may take me up to one month to edit all your files for your proofing gallery. Each session in the studio produces around 8 hours of editing so please bear with me and rest assured if I can deliver your gallery quicker then I will.

Once you have your gallery you wil have immediate access to download any images you have purchased in your package. These are delivered as downloadable files in an email link.

Do you offer gift vouchers?

Yes I can provide a gift card to suit your requirements. Please use the contact form to get in touch.
