Are you a professional photographer who has perhaps given newborn photography a go and not had much success? Or perhaps you are an enthusiastic amateur who is looking to take up newborn photography professionally. One of my training days might be just what you are looking for…..

Do you want to know the top tips and tricks for getting sleepy babies and how to carry out  a session safely? Perhaps you would like help with getting the natural window look in the studio?  Basically if I know it I am happy to share it!

Here are some examples of images that may be covered in the Natural Newborn Workshop…

My training days have been described as “The perfect first step on the ladder” and I have helped many photographers get their photography businesses off the ground, not only through boosting confidence in posing but also by offering genuine honest business advice on what works and what doesn’t in my own experience!

Why Choose Vicki at Pennycress for your Newborn Training?

I  have been specialising in newborns for almost 13 years now, and have photographed in excess of 1200 babies. In addition, I come from a teaching/training background and since 2011 I have trained just over 185 professional photographers from all over the world, in the safe posing and photographing of newborns. I also have a degree in Business & Marketing and a coaching qualification so often include that in training if required.

My training sessions are small groups with up to only 2-3 trainees so there is a lot of time for you to ask your questions.

The cost of a space on a small workshop day is just £395. The fee includes a light lunch, snacks and drinks throughout.  The full fee is payable at time of booking to secure your space and spaces are offered on a first come first served basis.

What will we cover?

Safety obviously comes first and is at the forefront of all work with newborns, we will look at handling baby safely, setting up the studio safely and working with new families.

We will look at the simple lighting setups I use in the studio you will be surprised how simple it is to use and also the tricks used to create my fake window and bed setups! Crucially I will show you how to get your skin tones right and those whites looking nice and crisp too.

We will talk about what equipment you really need and which is just good to have. I won’t send you home with a long shopping list, quite the opposite! I started Newborn photography before special beanbags, props and posing aids existed, so I am used to finding workarounds that don’t cost the bank balance too much!

We look at session workflow, using natural posing and simple wrapping techniques, discovering how to get a wonderful gallery for clients using natural and authentic images of baby and their parents too.  We won’t however cover any advanced poses, use of props or composite images in this course. Take a look at my work and see if my natural style if what you are looking for.

The morning is the practical session with a real scrummy newborn, You will get to see my techniques and ask lots of questions!  Once they have gone we will be using my SiB Sam, a fantastic custom-designed training tool. so you will get plenty hands-on practice wrapping and using different angles to create a gallery etc.

I will spend some time in the afternoon answering any business or general questions you may have and I will guide you through editing a couple of images and my usual Photoshop workflow for a natural newborn session including getting those whites white and also those nice deep black and white images.

I will only be doing a small number of workshops in 2022 as I am busy in the diary with clients so if you are interested please do get in touch and I can add you to the waiting list for further dates if no space is available. Limited 1:1 mentoring sessions are also available throughout the year.

I can’t recommend Vicki highly enough. Her combined passion and skills for teaching us her years of experience in newborn photography make her workshop unrivalled. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience as it was a small number of group which made it a relaxing and calm environment. I have learned a lot on the day, and she gave us a take away notes on everything we’ve covered which I found superb and extremely helpful! I think you are fantastic Vicki, and can’t thank you enough for a great and truly inspiring experience!

-After travelling down to Norfolk from Bolton to attend Vicki’s Newborn Workshop, I came away feeling so refreshed, full of new ideas and skills. Our lovely small group allowed us all to get involved and share our own personal experiences. Vicki did a fantastic job, letting us experience one of her real life newborn sessions. I was able to get hands on experience, with a years long professional at hand to help. She also shared all of her trade secrets with us which was great. The whole day was so relaxed and enjoyable, I will cherish it for a long time. I just can’t wait for my newborn sessions going forward. Thanks Vicki!!

– I did 1:1 training with Vicki, I learnt so much! She was an absolutely amazing teacher, so thorough!I cannot recommend Vicki enough for any photographers that are wanting to explore newborn photography in a natural and calm way!
